The Pro-Seeds Project & #DC PEACE FESTIVAL

D.C. Peace Festival at DC9Thursday, March 1

Before each show, members of the Forestville, Md., rap trio Gods’Illa greet the crowd shouting “Peace!” Their music, a blend of insightful, optimistic lyrics and percussive instrumentals, harkens back to hip-hop in the 1990s, when MCs could still sell records speaking to civic unrest. That’s part of why Gods’Illa (pictured) is such an apt choice for the D.C. Peace Festival, a benefit concert for the local prostate cancer awareness group Pro-Seeds Project. But it’s ironic, and perhaps telling, that the concert is being held at DC9, where in 2010 five employees were charged with killing Ali Ahmed Mohammed. Though the charges were dropped, the incident ignited the local Ethiopian community. Could the D.C. Peace Festival help fund prostate cancer research and soothe local tensions in one evening? It’s worth a try.
Louder Than Quiet, Gods’Illa, Phil Adé, Skip Mahoney and the Casuals, host Enoch 7th Prophet, and others perform at 6 p.m. at DC9, 1940 Ninth St. NW. $10.dcpeacefestival.com. (774) 277-9202.

Almaz Resturant and Lounge RESPONSE! to Open Letter

posted to my FACEBOOK FANPAGE!!! on 8/5/10 (Read what Almaz Demissie wrote compare the two stories)

This is the Almaz Restaurant management/owner Almaz Demissie aka Nunu , first of all i was surprised to see this post yesterday specially coming from a client that i have had the chance to work with many times before and know at least to resolve these kinds of misunderstandings in person rather than on a blog. Since there are two sides of a story i have to respond with regard to what happened. When I spoke with Toney Smith mid july i asked him about a show that he had scheduled for the end of that month and he had told me that it was cancelled but in addition to that he proposed if i can reserve every last wednesday of each month coming so he can host a charity event. I told him thats fine with me but he would have to confirm with me before the beginning of August. We did not discuss any other details.

On August 2nd I called him because someone had scheduled a show on the date that he wanted me to reserve for him. Since he hadn't called back i was trying to let him know prior so he can maybe find another venue in time, until the 25th of August. When i called him that day he was under the impression that the date was still reserved for him but he still suggested to do the event upstairs, i couldn't handle another event upstairs in addition to the one i had on the first floor so i didn't agree, he just said okay and hung up. The next time i read about this was on this letter and i am sorry that people just run with a story and it is true these days. Usually i have an agreement that i have clients sign prior to hosting an event about details but this client and i had worked so many times that we didn't need any. I had thought that the same had worked for the way we communicate and he would come to me with the questions as to why the event was cancelled. There was no miscommunication on my part. I need confirmation in order to keep events from being cancelled by the hosts of those events so they won't cancel last minute. And again both sides of the story should be told before judgement is made about the issue.

Thank you

OPEN LETTER TO ALMAZ RESTAURANT AND LOUNGE

August 4, 2010
Almaz Demissie, Owner
Almaz Restaurant and Lounge
1212 U Street NW
Washington, DC 20009

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is to complain about service I recently received from Almaz Restaurant and Lounge at 1212 U street NW, WDC. The customer service representative/Owner’s name is Almaz Demissie aka NuNu.
Toney Smith and I met with Almaz Demissie at Almaz Restaurant and Lounge on June 24, 2010 to discuss holding my (Enoch) video release party, along with a charity event called “The Pro-Seeds Project” where awareness and money would be raised to benefit prostate cancer. This event was scheduled for August 25, 2010. Please keep in mind that I have done many other events here before, and one night I even checked ID’s because nobody else was there to do it. So the history between the two parties has been business and personal. After we agreed on the upstairs space and bar guarantee ($300) for the August 25, 2010 event then, NuNu gave us a week before the event to turn in the monies owed, a practice she has always done with us.
Promotion means to bring attention to such an epic event as outlined below.
June 26, 2010: Rally artists and sponsors via emails, text messages, and telephone calls.
June 29, 2010: Confirm seven artists, one host, and seven sponsors.
July 1, 2010: Press release goes out to over/nearly 1200 people via email including local newspapers, magazines and businesses within and outside of the Washington DC area.
July 17, 2010: An official flyer is created that is posted on MySpace, Twitter, newsletters, emails, Eventbrite and Facebook, and on which Almaz Demeissie was tagged.
On August 3, 2010, after a month of promotion, I get a text message from Toney Smith stating, and I quote, “NuNu pulled your event for a higher bid.” I was quite frustrated and began to read other text messages that Toney Smith was sending that read, “I asked Nunu if that person had the downstairs or upstairs.” Her reply was, “I don’t want to have two parties here, and I didn’t even know you guys was doing a charity event here.”
In conclusion, my entire network and I and a growing list of others, have vowed never to spend money at Almaz Restaurant and Lounge ever again. The Community has spoken about how they wish to proceed with the process to boycott this venue, among other things. I have received tons of hits on Facebook about how people aren’t even going to spend money there any longer due to the fact of US being treated like this.
Sincerely,
Enoch 7th Prophet
